May 13 - Drive to Cavan Castle

We are on our way to our next hotel located a bit inland.  On the way we stopped at Armagh to see the two St Patrick’s Cathedrals, one Roman Catholic

and the other Anglican.

Armagh was in the center of much of The Troubles and the churches apparently were caught in the middle.

We eventually arrived in our new hotel, Cabra Castle.  Pretty cool.  It’s origins date back to the early 1800’s as a manor house.

Our room is in the Courtyard, a series of buildings that were originally the coach houses and the stables.

Our room had beautiful furnishings...

and opened on to a lovely garden.

The Castle itself has lots of interesting rooms and windy corridors.

We also got a tour of the ballroom that is used for weddings and special events.

After photographing much of the castle we headed out into the wooded walk.  The “trail” was a wide grassy road.  Reminded us of a logging trail.  But at least we got a bit of exercise in the lovely woods.  And the weather was absolutely beautiful and almost warm (the locals referred to it as a heat wave).

The gardens are beautiful and there are a lot of flowers in bloom.
